Amir Jamaat-i-Islami Azad Jammu and Kashmir Sardar Ejaz Afzal criticised western countries for keeping mum towards the increasing human rights violations in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
"The indifference of international community especially the western powers towards Indian state terrorism in a contributing factor to the systematic abuse of human rights in occupied Jammu and Kashmir," the AJK leader said during his address to an international conference 'Global Discourse on Kashmir' organised by Kashmir Group here at European Parliament.
"International community and big powers put most efforts into the conflict management by effecting cease-fires rather than conflict resolution. But once the ceasefires are in place the occupying forces have a sign of relief, the dispute loses the same urgency and it is frozen and never resolved," Ejaz said.
He reiterated demand of right to self-determination saying Kashmiri people must have to decide the future status of Kashmir. "It was championed by the United States as a principal sponsor of the resolution, adopted by UN Security Council in 1948."
"The resolution says that final disposition of Jammu and Kashmir will be made in accordance with the will of the people expressed through a free and impartial plebiscite conducted under the auspices of United Nations," Ejaz said.
He said "early and amicable Kashmir solution according to the wishes of Kashmiri people is essential in the changing world situation."
