Punjab Inspector General of Prisons Captain Sarfaraz Mufti (Retd) on Tuesday suspended nine jailers including a Deputy Superintendent of Sialkot jail on charges of corruption.
Official sources told APP here that on receiving complaints of corruption, the IG constituted two-member inquiry committee headed by DIG HQ Abdu1 Sattar Aajiz with Superintendent Camp Jail Lahore Naveed Ashraf as member to probe the charges.
On a surprise visit of the jail, the team found corruption allegations against the said officials, including the jail superintendent Yusuf Ghauri to be true.
In the light of inquiry report, the IG ordered immediate suspension of deputy superintendent Azhar Khan, chief warder Zaka Ullah, head warders Ashraf and Yousaf, warder Amir, Younas, Razzaq and Sarwar.
Meanwhile, the corruption report of Superintendent Jail has been sent to Home Secretary Punjab for departmental proceedings under efficiency and discipline rules.
IG Jail, on the special directive of Punjab Chief Minister, has circulated the following telephone and fax numbers of all range DIGs and IG office for the convenience of people to lodge any complaint on the working or conduct of jailers, to help the department ensure prompt redressal.
