The Senate Standing Committee on Finance has summoned 10 top stockbrokers for questing on October 17, who according to Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) were involved in stock market crash scam, it is learnt.
"We have summoned top 10 brokers which the SECP believes were the main players behind the financial collapse of Stock Exchange a few months earlier," said a member of the committee.
The committee, headed by Senator Ahmad Ali, has obtained details of transactions both after and before the crisis, he said, adding that both SECP officials and the stockbrokers would be questioned to fix the responsibility of that crisis.
He said SECP has already provided trading list which shows who transacted Rs 40 billion of the small investors to foreign bank accounts.
After hearing the viewpoint of both parties, the committee would decide whether forensic accounting was necessary to trace the real manipulators or not, the official said, adding that the brokers involved in the scam would be taken to task.
The official, however, declined to disclose the names of brokers who have been called at the meeting, saying they were very powerful people and could create hurdles for him.
