Modest gains and losses were marked on the commodities wholesale market as holy month of Ramazan began amid shouts of some items going beyond reach of salaried class, said traders and consumers during the week ended on October 8, 2005.
The fruits apart price variations were seen in moong Australia, Urad Burma, wheat, til, cotton cakes, plastic, gram garda and dal from Punjab, dyes, chemicals etc.
On Monday moong Punjab was quoted higher at Rs 2750, masoor Australia registered at Rs 2800, 3000, Urad Burma low type up Rs 25 and the best type rose by Rs 50 to Rs 1300, wheat inferior and superior shed Rs 10 to Rs 1070 and Rs 1080, til low type quoted at Rs 1650 and better type at Rs 1775, cottonseed cakes up Rs 10.

Higher trend persisted in the grain markets on Saturday as short supply kept the buyers on toes to cover their future buying, dealers said.
Til, however, reversed back its overnight firmness, losing 50 paisa for the lower type at Rs 1600 and better type slid Rs 25 to Rs 1750, they added.
On the grams side, bajra better type gained Rs 50 to Rs 1650 and the inferior type posted fresh gain of Rs 100 to Rs 1600, they said.
On the cereals side, wheat Mexipak old and new varieties registered higher at Rs 1130 and Rs 1140 amid hectic demand. Other commodity items did not show big changes in the modest trading, they said.
On the seed side, upward trend was again seen in the prices as the cottonseed oilcake with bag low type rose by Rs 10 to Rs 430 and best type picked up Rs 15 to Rs 415 on rising demand, dealers said.
