Leaders of the opposition parties in Multan have expressed their deep grief over the death and destruction caused by the earthquake in various parts of the country and have also asked their workers to lend a helping hand in the relief efforts.
Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Central Vice Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani expressed his grief from Adiyala Jail on the death of about 20,000 people and expressed sympathy with the injured persons and their families.
Yousaf Raza Gilani said that he is behind bar otherwise he would have been among the affectees to console them.
PPPP'scentral Deputy Secretary General Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Ahmed Hussain Dehar, Khalid Hanif Lodhi, Khurshid Ahmed Khan, Khawaja RizwanAlam, Tariq Raza Khan also expressed grief and sorrow over thousands of casualties owing to earthquake in different parts of the country.
They appealed to all political parties, social and religious organisations of the country to play their due role by taking part in the relief activities for the affectees of this dreadful incident and they also prayed for the departed souls to rest in eternal peace.
PML-N leader MNA Memona Hashmi, Syed Zahid Bahar Hashmi, MNA Rana Mehmood-ul-Hassan, Moulvi Sultan Alam, Bilal Butt have expressed their heart-felt grief over the deaths and devastation caused by the earthquake, and directed the workers of the PML-N to reach the affected areas and start the relief work.
Major Mujib-ur-Rehman (Retd) of Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI), while expressing his deep pain at the deaths and wide-scale destruction, maintained that it was because of the misconduct of the government in the holy month of Ramazan that the masses suffered.
MMA leader Liaqat Baloch said the earthquake had shown the reality of the 'good governance' as the official machinery had behaved in its traditional procrastination and naivety. "Tall buildings of Islamabad have proven the fact that constructions raised by the corrupt elements can prove dangerous for the masses. "We demand of the government to help the affectees on emergency basis," he added.
