The manufacturers of sports goods have appealed to the federal government to take drastic steps for upgradation of the industry enabling it to cope with the requirements of changing trends in the global market.
The sports goods industry of Sialkot is totally export-oriented, which manufactures and supplies high standard soccer balls, hockey sticks, cricket bats and cricket gear, martial arts uniform etc to foreign countries.
The industry needs full support of the government, especially for its upgradation, for meeting the global requirements and to compete the world market.
Presently, the soccer ball industry is facing a big test to successfully encounter the change posed by the introduction of mechanised ball called "Roterio Ball", which has already been used in the European Championship 2004. Under the circumstances, the sports industry is directly needed the financial and technical support of the government to effectively face this challenge.
Various exporters and manufacturers of sports goods pinpointed that other areas like technical training, forceful marketing techniques in which the government can play an instrumental role for the uplift of sports goods industry. "The upgradation of the industry is a continuous exercise but there are circumstances where total change of machinery and production process is required, which the industry cannot afford and needs the government support," they added.
They hoped that the federal government would allocate sufficient funds in the forthcoming budget for the modernisation of sports goods industry.
