Pakistan's participation in the 25th Federal Trade Fair for home textiles and garments, held in Moscow from September 20 to 23, may prove another milestone in the trade relations between the two countries, said Larisa Dmitrievna, Deputy Director, Textilexpo, the organiser of federal trade fairs.
According to details available here on Monday, the organiser believed that the traders of Pakistan and Russia could help improve the trade volume between the two countries.
The Karachi-based Integrated Textile Network (ITN) and Moscow-based RUPA firms have prepared a plan to encourage the private sector of Pakistan to develop its economic partnership with Russia and Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) states.
Pak-Russia Business Council of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Director and ITN Chief Executive Mohammad Farooq Afzal, who led the textile delegation, said Pakistani textile exporters and manufacturers were present in large numbers in the fair. About 40 countries from South East Asia, East Europe, Baltic and the CIS states participated in the fair where varieties of home textile and garments products aimed at promoting economic ties at bilateral and regional levels were displayed.
He is hopeful that this would help Pakistan to expand its business contacts with Russia and the East European states.
Pakistan's Ambassador to Russia, Mustafa Kamal Kazi appreciated the efforts made by the ITN in the promotion of textile products in Russia and the CIS markets, and expressed the hope that the fair would help further cementing the exemplary Pak-Russian friendship and enhancing the trade relations.
Pakistani exporters had not only put up their products on display in the fair but also availed the opportunity to interact with their Russian counterparts and visiting delegates from East Europe, CIS states and other regional countries.
The ITN believes that Moscow, within the next couple of years would emerge as a gigantic market of East European region since the city government is making huge investment to develop Moscow into an international market.
RUPA Director Moqeem is also very optimistic about the benefits that would accrue to Pakistan from the future trade centre, Moscow.
