The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has decided to donate Rs 10 million and two days' salary of tax officials for President's Relief Fund, and has converted regional tax offices into emergency medical centres to help the survivors of the earthquake.
CBR Chairman Abdullah Yusuf called an emergency meeting of the Board-in-Council on Monday to initiate relief efforts in consultation with the line and private members.
The meeting noted that in this hour of national calamity where all big and small organisations have joined the relief efforts, CBR was no exception.
The participants expressed their grief and sorrow on the disaster and stressed the need for rehabilitation of the dislocated families.
The meeting resolved that two days' salary by all officers and staff of CBR and its field offices would be donated to President's Relief Fund.
It was also decided to provide Rs 10 million from the CBR Employees Welfare Fund for medical supplies and relief goods.
The CBR has also approved a comprehensive plan to contribute in the relief and rehabilitation of the affected areas.
Special medical teams comprising officers and staff of CBR and its field offices, with medical degrees or previous para-medical experience, have been formed for carrying out relief activities in the affected areas.
Two teams will cover Mansehra and Abbottabad with medical and first aid supplies. Income Tax Offices at both places have been converted into Medical Centres and control room for all the medical teams.
Centres for collection of relief goods have been established at CBR House, Islamabad and Commissionerates/Colectorates at Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Peshawar, Faisalabad, Lahore, Gujranwala and Rawalpindi. General public and particularly CBR employees have been requested to make efforts for collection of relief goods. Arrangements for transportation and distribution of these goods have been made.
The officers and staff of the CBR and its field offices are persuading and motivating the public for donations. In the process, relief goods worth Rs 5 million comprising cloth for the burial of dead bodies, blankets and clothes have been dispatched to earthquake affected areas.
The staff of the CBR and field offices, who have suffered loss of property and life, have been asked to contact the nearest Commissioner/Collector or Secretary (Admin) CBR with complete facts for assistance.
