The engineers of Pakistan Steel have successfully retrieved 6,000 tonnes of useable coke worth Rs 70 million by screening the abandoned heaps of industrial waste dumped in the premises of Pakistan Steel since many years, says a press release here on Monday.
The achievement is a result of strategy adopted by the management under the visionary and timely guidance of the Chairman, Pakistan Steel, Lieutenant General Abdul Qayyum (retd).
The Chairman, in recognition of the efforts a deputy manager in making the achievement possible, announced his promotion to the next higher grade.
The Chairman disclosed this while speaking an Iftar dinner hosted at Quaid-I-Azam Park, Steel Town, after inaugurating the newly-constructed "City Gate" of the park.
He recalled that owing to urgent repair and maintenance works of coke oven batteries (COBP), being carried out through internal resources for the last few months, the production of coke was slowed down.
Hence, to keep the "blast furnace" running, the retrieval strategy of coke was chalked out to amply supplement the shortage of coke resulting from slow production at the COBP.
