Punjab University has collected Rs eight million as donation from academic departments, while teachers and employees would donate 2-day salary to the quake victims to help them overcome trauma of disaster.
The Punjab University vice-chancellor Arshad Mahmood in a meeting here Monday directed the Deans, Principals, Directors, Chairpersons and Professors to mobilise students and donate maximum funds for the quake victims. He personally donated Rs 10,000 and his 5-day salary. Arshad's brother-in-law also contributed Rs 20,000 in the PU relief fund.
Academic Staff Association President Professor Dr Haris Rasheed announced university teachers and students would take goods and other edibles to the earthquake hit areas. Teaching departments also announced cash amount from their self-supporting fund as under: Punjab University College of Information Technology Rs one million, University administration, Pharmacy, IBIT, Chemical Technology, Hailey College of Commerce, Institute of Business Administration and Institute of Administrative Sciences contributed Rs 500,000 each, principal of Hailey College of Banking and Finance donated Rs 100,000 from his personal account and Rs 200,000 from college account, Law College, Institute of Chemistry and PU Gujranwala Campus donated Rs 200,000 each, Physics Institute of Education and Research, South Asian Study Center, Pakistan Study Center, Social Work, Geography and Biochemistry and Biotechnology donated Rs 100,000 each, Microbiology, Molecular Genetics and Botany departments mutually donated Rs 100,000 while Mycology and Plant Pathology donated Rs 50,000.
Meanwhile, Punjab University has set up an emergency medical camp at the University's Khanaspur Campus in Ayubia and a team of two senior medical officers has been sent there along with an ambulance and medicines.
