Al-Khidmat Foundation Relief Base Camp set up in NWFP at Mansehra has started large-scale relief operation. Meanwhile, Jamaat-i-Islami Ameer Qazi Hussain Ahmed dashed to Islamabad for onward visit to affected areas to inspect relief work carried out under the banner of Al-Khidmat Foundation.
He visited central relief office at Islamabad where he was briefed about the details of operation. Mansehra Relief Camp In-charge Dr Mushtaq Ahmed said the Foundation had set up five major camps at Balakot, Shinkiari, Shawwal, Garhi Habibullah and Battal. He said roads leading to Kohistan and Shangrela were completely destroyed, therefore, relief goods were dispatched through Swat in the affected areas.
The JI volunteers' teams, he said, were trying to access Kohistan and Shangrela areas on foot. So far, he said, 16-truck containing coffins, medicines and tents had arrived in Balakot, Shinkiari, Shawwal, Garhi Habibullah and Battal.
Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (Pima) had set up 100-bed tent hospital where 20 doctors and 35 paramedics were giving treatment to wounded. According the Dr Mushtaq Ahmed, 700 JI volunteers were busy in searching dead bodies from the debris of demolished homes and arranging their burial. Battagram Camp was working under the supervision of Merajuddin Khan while MNA Fazal-e-Subhan supervising camps at Basham and Shangrela.
MEDICAL TEAM REACHES AJK QUAKE-HIT AREAS A medical team of Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital Lahore, headed by Dr Ahsan Shamim, an eminent orthopaedic surgeon, has reached the earthquake hit areas of Azad Jammu & Kashmir to provide medical treatment to victims.
SKMCH doctors, with three vehicles full of medicines and life saving drugs, have already set up a medical camp at Bala Kot and started providing medical assistance to the needy peoples of the area.
The management of SKMCH has decided to send another team of doctors with medicines and food supplies soon.
