The Vice Chancellor, Dow University of Health Sciences, Professor Masood Hameed Khan here Monday announced an elaborate program to reinforce the relief operations and constituted medical teams to help the earthquake victims.
Chairing an emergency meeting of the faculty members and students of DUHS on Monday he announced to open a special account for the relief of the victims.
He, on behalf of university staff, also announced their one-day salary for the fund. Students and medical professionals present on the occasion were appealed not only to make generous donations but also offer their services in the affected areas, under emergency conditions.
The Vice Chancellor constituted several working teams including one comprising general surgeons, orthopaedic surgeons, paediatric surgeons and anaesthetists. It was decided the teams to be headed by Professor Mir Mohammad Dahiri, who in accordance to details of need in concerned areas would despatch professionals on priority basis.
A team of willing doctors was constituted on immediate basis and they were advised to leave for northern areas. Undergraduate and postgraduate medical students present on the occasion offered their services as field workers.
DUHS has also opened collection camps at Dow Medical College, Sindh Medical College and Ojha Institute of Chest Diseases for collection of relief items including blankets, warm clothes, medicines and so forth.
Medical Superintendent, Civil Hospital, Karachi, Dr Kaleem Butt also addressed the meeting and extended full support, in all respects, including the services of paramedics.
DUHS Vice Chancellor, Professor Masood Hameed Khan is co-ordinating the emergency relief efforts with the Emergency Cell established at Sindh Governor House and the Special Cell in the Prime Minister's Secretariat, Islamabad.
