The Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) has started survey of old, unsafe and risky buildings within its jurisdiction, in wake of devastative earthquake which jolted country on October 8. The survey will be finished within 15 days.
This was stated by Rafiq Ahmed Sial, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the board here on Wednesday while talking to reporters.
He said that after completion of survey report, notices would be served to owners of dangerous buildings to evacuate and repair them immediately. "Cantonment Board conducts a survey before rainy season every year but due to devastating earthquake which took place on Saturday, special survey has been started to avoid the loss of life and property", Sial added.
He said that the Cantonment Board had not enough infrastructures to face the terrible situation after calamity. "We have not any kind of sophisticated machinery to remove the debris of the building or take out men from there," CEO added. He said that the efforts are being made at level best to complete the survey within shortest span of time.
On the occasion the Chief Executive Officer of the Chaklala Cantonment Board (CCB), Masood Chudhary said that the CCB would also commence a survey regarding hazardous building very soon.
He said that Chaklala Cantonment Board is also providing food and tents to the kith and kins of those who were shifted to CMH and MH Rawalpindi, for treatment, from far flung areas of AJK and Hazara after getting injuries during Saturday's earthquake.
He said that the CCB was also instructed by the higher authorities for providing maximum wooden coffin boxes to the calamity-affected areas.
