The Opec Fund for International Development will donate one million dollars to aid victims of the massive earthquake that struck Pakistan, India and Afghanistan, is chairman said on Wednesday.
Emirati Jamal Nasser Lutah said in a statement that 600,000 dollars will be allocated to Pakistan, 200,000 dollars to India and 200,000 dollars to Afghanistan through the Red Crescent organisations in each of the countries.
"The Fund decided to donate this money to help these countries face the ramifications of this natural disaster and to extend our help to the people who are most affected and are in dire need of basic food and medical supplies," he said.
The Opec Fund for International Development was established in 1976 by members of the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries to aid low-income countries achieve economic progress.
In January, it granted 1.2 million dollars in aid to victims of earthquakes and tsunami tidal waves that wrecked Asia.
More than 23,000 people have been confirmed to have died in the 7.6-magnitude quake and another 2.5 million were made homeless.
