Constant display of gruesome scenes, of the havoc played by the earthquake in northern parts of the country on our television sets is causing serious psychological implications on general public.
Dr Majid Ali Abidi, psychiatrist associated with Hamdard University Hospital, here on Thursday referred to a surge in the cases where people, particularly those already hypertensive, are reporting with physiological and psychological trauma.
Constant reports regarding possible jolts in their own cities of residence or registered after shocks at places already exposed to the calamity is further adding to their psychological trauma.
Dr Abidi in this regard particularly referred to the recent episodes of chaos and scare in certain areas of Karachi, where residents experiencing minor nature of jerks, preferred to spend their night at open space.
"People from almost all social strata coming out with their children and preferring to sit on pavement the whole nights with little interest in having even their Sehri is simply reflected of paranoid among people in general," Dr Abdi elaborated. According to him, this behaviour largely beyond comprehension was but reflected of stress people are experiencing, the psychiatrist said urging the media to contribute in restoring public morale and faith in -Allah Almighty.
He appealed to the media professionals to also highlight incidents of human valor and benevolence - particularly how this is helping rescue survivors of the havoc and supported to resume a new life.
