Dutch Minister for Development Co-operation, Agnes van Ardenne has committed ten million Euros for the relief efforts in the aftermath of the massive earthquake that hit Pakistan on October 08.
The commitment comes in addition to the one million Euros committed on October 8 for the first relief efforts and was channelled through the Red Cross, which immediately supplied 5 emergency health kits to the affected areas.
According to a news release issued by the Embassy of Netherlands here on Thursday, the new 10 million Euros humanitarian relief would be divided among the following international organisations: three million Euros for World Food Programme, which is carrying food aid to the affected areas and co-ordinates airlifting of the aid; three million Euros for UNICEF, which supplies food aid, water and sanitary provisions; 1.5 million Euros to the International Red Cross; 0.5 million Euros to UN-OCHA and two million Euros to other relief organisations active in the affected areas.
The Netherlands has responded to the flash appeal of more than $270 million launched by the United Nations on Tuesday, October 11.
The Dutch search and rescue team has incessantly continued its work in Bagh since Monday night. It has continuously sent out teams to the city of Bagh and the rural areas surrounding it in search of survivors of the earthquake.
The Dutch team comprises 60 professional search and rescue workers, one doctor and 5 medics, and 8 dogs trained in search and rescue efforts.
