Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Saturday directed Federal Relief Commission (FRC) to ensure proper supply of relief goods among quake victims according to the need through co-ordinated efforts.
He was addressing a meeting at the Federal Relief Commission, set up at the Prime Minister's Secretariat and working under the supervision of Major General Farooq Ahmed Khan.
Farooq Khan briefed the Prime Minister about the working of the FRC and said the Commission is working round the clock.
The Prime Minister emphasised the need for enhancing the co-ordination between the government, private organisations and foreign agencies to give further impetus to rescue and relief efforts in quake-stricken areas.
He said people are showing great interest and relief assistance is flowing into the quake-hit areas in large quantities from around the country and abroad but there is need to adopt a co-ordinated and planned way for its proper distribution.
Shaukat Aziz said the Commission should identify the needs of the people and review the daily supply to avoid superfluous of the relief goods. He said because of winter season, tents and blankets should be provided on top priority.
The Prime Minister directed the Commission to update its work with updating number of those killed and injured in the earthquake.
Shaukat Aziz was informed that the death toll has reached 38,204 out of which 13,208 are in NWFP and the figure could substantially increase in coming days.
The Prime Minister also directed the Commission to open a website to project relief operation and provide latest information about the rehabilitation.
Later, Shaukat Aziz also visited the Prime Minister Relief Cell set up at the PM Secretariat working under Colonel Baseer where 15 telephone lines have been installed, and it is working round the clock to receive the complaints and suggestions of the people regarding relief operation.
The toll free number of the Cell is 0800-00023.
