As many as 8000 private and public sector schools have been destroyed in NWFP in the devastating earthquake that struck Pakistan on October 08.
According to details gathered from official website of the NWFP government, more than 90 percent schools had been completely destroyed in the worst affected districts of Mansehra, Shangla, Batagram, Kohistan and Abbotabad, whereas remaining 10 percent of school buildings had been partially damaged in the earthquake.
About 5000 children lost their lives while thousands received injuries in the killer quake.
The NWFP Elementary Education Foundation has been instructed to release loans on easy conditions for the necessary renovation of the damaged school buildings.
The provincial government has decided to set up tent schools to save the precious time of the children and help them resume their studies.
A committee, comprising Secretary Colleges Sahibzada Khalid, Special Secretary Schools Shafiullah Khan and Additional Director Schools, Shams Khan, has been established to evaluate the losses of school buildings in the massive earthquake.
