The yield-cutting soyabean rust fungus was discovered in two more Georgia counties, the US Agriculture Department said Tuesday on its rust-monitoring Web site.
The fungus was found in Wilcox County - the fifth new county in the state to report soyarust during the last six days.
Soyarust was found in two commercial soyabean fields that were in the mature R6 growth stage. Soyarust also was discovered on a kudzu patch in Calhoun County.
Separately, USDA said weather conditions in the United States will not be favourable to spread soyarust through at least Wednesday. Soyabean rust, which can slash yields by up to 80 percent, thrives in warm, humid weather with cloudy skies.
