Pakistan, China and some other regional countries have pledged to strengthen their co-operation for developing renewable energy resources and adopted a declaration at an international symposium, held in Lanzhou, north-west China's Gansu province on the topic of solar energy use in developing countries.
The symposium was attended by experts and officials from over 20 developing countries, including China, Pakistan, Egypt and Nigeria. The purpose of the meeting was to share experience on development of solar energy and renewable energy, and to strengthen international exchange and co-operation.
"Developing solar energy is a complex and systematic project which calls for multilateral and bilateral co-operation," said Zhao Yongli, an official of China International Centre for Economic and Technical Exchanges here on Tuesday.
China has become a new training centre for technical personnel of solar energy utilisation in developing countries. To date, the Asia-Pacific Research and Training Centre for Solar Energy, which is located in Yuzhong County of Lanzhou, has trained nearly 500 solar energy specialists from 72 countries.
An official of Jiangsu Solar Energy Resources Institute said Pakistan and China had bright prospects to co-operate under the Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) signed by the two countries last year in the field of renewable energy.
Talking to APP he said, "we can particularly help in manufacturing solar collector tubes that could be used to provide inexpensive electricity".
A delegation of technical experts had already visited Pakistan for undertaking joint ventures to develop these tubes as well as other methods of producing thermal solar energy. "We are also prepared for transfer of technology to Pakistan for the development of renewable energy," he added.
