Minister for Information and Broadcasting Sheikh Rashid Ahmad has apprehended that the quake losses in the NWFP and Azad Jammu Kashmir may cross $12 billion mark.
Teams comprising revenue officials, representatives from relevant local administration, army and commoners have been constituted to assess the exact magnitude of damages, he told a private television channel. The infrastructure of affected areas has totally been damaged. Extraneous efforts were under way to salvage whatever left, he said.
The quake survivors would be rehabilitated on war footings. Enough food items and blankets were available. However, there was a scarcity of tents, he added.
