The rupee gained five paisa in relation to the dollar for buying and selling at 60.00 and 60.05, respectively, in the open market on Friday.
Easy supply position helped the rupee to recover its ground and the rupee might maintain its firmness versus the dollar in the coming days, dealers said.
Inflows of dollar are the main factor behind the rupee's continued firmness, they said.
As a result of modest recovery in the euro's value globally, the rupee also shed 20 paisa versus the single European currency for buying and selling at 71.60 and Rs 71.70
INTERBANK MARKET RATES: The rupee rose by one paisa against the dollar for buying and selling at 59.71 and 59.72, marketmen said.
Money experts were confident that good supply of dollars likely to help the rupee to retain its gain despite the heavy dollars' buying by the corporate sector

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The rupee maintained upward trend and further appreciated its worth by 15-paisa on buying side at Rs 59.90 and 10 paisa on selling side at Rs 60.05 in relation to the greenback in the local currency markets on Friday.
According to the currency dealers, the dollar could not sustain on account of lacking buying support. The dollar's trading commenced at Rs 59.97 and Rs 60.07 on buying and selling sides respectively. As a result of increase in the supply of the greenback its rate moved down to Rs 59.90 and Rs 60.05 on buying and selling sides, respectively, as compared to Rs 60.05 and Rs 60.15 of Thursday, the dealers said.
However, the local currency could not get out of pressure and further lost its worth against the pound sterling. The British pound was purchased at Rs 105.80 and was sold at Rs 106.30 against Rs 105.40 and Rs 105.90 of Thursday, the dealers added.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The buying and selling rates of dollar against the rupee at the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Friday.
The dollar opened at Rs 60.15 (buying) and Rs 60.25 (selling) against same last rate. It did not observe any further change in the second spell and closed at Rs 60.15 (buying) and Rs 60.25 (selling).
Pound sterling opened at Rs 104.50 (buying) and Rs 105 (selling) against same last rate. It did not show any further change and closed at Rs 104.50 (buying) and Rs 105 (selling).
