Jute goods prices showed substantial jump white other commodities also firmed on the commodity wholesale markets during the week ended on October 22, 2005. However, on Monday modest trading was marked.
The moong Punjab better quality rose by Rs 2.50 to Rs 3000 and inferior type up by Rs 1.25 to Rs 3125, wheat Mexipak both old and new varieties lost Rs 10 to Rs 1130/1135 and Rs 1140/1145, cottonseed lost Rs 10 to Rs 1130/1135 and Rs 1140/1145, cottonseed oilcakes with bag gained Rs 5 on tight supplies to Rs 440 and better type at Rs 450.
ON TUESDAY TEA PRICES SHOWED MIXED TREND IN KENYA: PF-1 A Grade down Rs 2 to Rs 170, B grade up Re 1 to Rs 163, plus C grade down Re 1 to Rs 139, C grade down Re 1 to Rs 127, Bangladesh's Garden Pack (original) down Re 1 to Rs 106, Gulab down Re 1 to Rs 104, Khushbu down Rs 2 to Rs 199, and Garden Pack (BOP) down Rs 3 to Rs 107. Bajra prices retreated on fresh arrivals from upcountry. However inferior type shed Rs 200 to Rs 1400, while good type lost Rs 150 to Rs 1500, til low type shed Rs 100 to Rs 1500 while superior type gave in Rs 50 to Rs 1700.
On Wednesday down trend was seen in most commodities such as Makai lost Rs 25 to Rs 825/875 as supply greatly improved, wheat Mexipak old quoted higher at Rs 1140, the new variety was registered at Rs 1150, Irri-White good type rose by Rs 10 to Rs 1000. Kirana items black pepper down Rs 25 to Rs 3900, big cardamom down Rs 100 to Rs 7,900 cloves up Rs 150 to Rs 9,350 and Isbaghol Bhoosi down Rs 100 to Rs 8,400.
On Thursday jute goods showed some changes after staying sloath for days. Jute goods 45x10 Amin up Rs 50 to Rs 1750, 50x9 Thul up Rs 50 to Rs 1700, 45x9 up Rs 50 to Rs 1700 and 50x8 Thul up Rs 50 to Rs 1500.Yellow peas from Canada was also higher by Rs 25 to Rs 1465, and beetle chana ended with gains of Rs 25 to Rs 1960 to Rs 2000, as demand rose for consumption during Ramazan. Mexiwheat old and new both shed Rs 5 to Rs 1135/1145, Guwar rose by Rs 50 to Rs 1850/1950 for all stations, cottonseed oilcake with bag lost Rs 5 to Rs 435/440.
On Friday prices maintained overnight level traders said owing mainly to steps to keep supply and demand pace matching. However chemicals showed some changes in caustic soda flakes Saudi up Re 1 to Rs 39, N.J. Taiwan up Rs 6 to Rs 99, Citric acid China down Re 1 to Rs 50, petroleum jelly. PVA Japan up Re 1 to Rs 138, Sitara caustic soda flakes up Re 1 to Rs 40, Caustic Taiwan down Re 1 to Rs 39, Ringolite "C" China down Re 1 to Rs 31, India down Rs 8 to Rs 44, acetic acid Taiwan down Re 1 to Rs 70, and Korean down Re 1 to Rs 72.
On Saturday, market sources said that prices moved up on the rice sector as buyers increased buying to meet the market demand, other types fluctuated in a narrow range but closed at the overnight levels, they said.
Prices moved both ways on the cereals side as Makai good type gained Rs 25 to Rs 900 while the inferior type did not show any change at Rs 825, dealers said. Wheat Mexipak old and new both types shed Rs five to Rs 1130 and Rs 1140, they said.
On the grams side, Yellow peas Canada lost Rs 30 to Rs 1435-1475 on fresh arrivals, they said. Yellow peas Canada Dal both inferior and superior types gaind Rs 15 to Rs 1640-1680, they said.
On the seed side, cottonseed oilcake with bag good type gained Rs 2 to Rs 442 while low type maintained its overnight level at Rs 435, they said.
