The Inqilab, one of the leading Bengali dailies of Dhaka, has urged the international community to increase humanitarian assistance to the earthquake victims of Pakistan.
The daily's editorial said on Sunday that relief materials provided by the international community to the quake victims were insufficient to meet the requirements.
"Another human disaster may hit these quake-victims due to winter, if sufficient relief goods do not reach them," the daily warned.
Pakistan needed at least 5,000 million dollars for reconstruction of its devastated areas, but the assurance that Pakistan so far got was only 620 million dollars, it said.
"The relief material so far reached Pakistan for the quake-victims is so in negligible amount. It is very pity that medicines, medical teams and the helicopters to conduct relief operation are far beyond the requirements," the daily informed.
The daily apprehended that the survival of three million people, who escaped the disaster, would be at stake if food, shelter and clothes were not provided to them on emergency basis.
The Inqilab opined that earthquake in Pakistan was worse than the last year's tsunami and posed question to the international community if it would play a silent role in those circumstances.
"The international community has no room to remain silent. It must come forward with all possible help to save these people in Pakistan who are fighting with death after losing their belongings and their dears and near ones," the daily urged.
