Faisalabad district government has shifted more than 50 percent truck stands to Jhang road, outside the city. Some transporters, protesting against the decision, have sought extension of relaxation period.
Meanwhile, Factory area police have arrested a transporter Amjad Hussain and his two employees for protesting against the decision and registered a case against them under section 188-PPC.
The district government had imposed ban on entry of trucks and operation of truck stands in the city areas, through an order issued under section 144Cr.PC after lapse of relaxation period.
All sorts of operations, including loading, unloading and booking from old stands, Jhang Bazar to American Hospital, Rajbah Chowk to Gumti Chowk, former Municipal Corporation Offices to Rajbah, Circular Road, Sadiq Market etc has been declared prohibited.
According to section 144Cr.PC, no any truck would be allowed to enter.
SP Traffic Malik Abdul Aziz said this decision was taken to handle the traffic problems caused by the truck stands located within highly congested city areas after holding a number of meetings with all the stakeholders.
The decision was taken in a meeting held earlier at Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry with the Goods Transport Association, traders associations of eight bazaars and other stakeholders that old truck stands should be shifted to new truck stands located at Jhang Road.
According to decision, traders would be facilitated with transporting their goods to business areas through Suzuki pickups instead of prevalent donkey cart transportation system.
Traffic police official said facilities like telephone, sewerage and other requirements had been provided at the new truck stand and Suzuki pickups had also been managed for transportation of goods.
He said that effective enforcement of law would be ensured and no truck would be allowed to enter in to the city.
