Expressing its solidarity and sympathy with the victims of the earthquake, the Christian community has also decided to celebrate Christmas in a simple way in the country. All Pakistan Minorities Alliance (APMA) Chairman Shehbaz Bhatti stated this at a press conference here on Tuesday.
He said that the minority members of the Parliament and APMA executive council members would celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr with the victims of earthquakes in the affected areas, which would show their solidarity and sympathy to them.
He said that like other segments of the society, minorities are also playing their due role in helping the quake victims.
Since the first day of tragedy, APMA has dispatched more than 20 truckloads of goods among the victims in the affected areas of Balakot, Ghari Habibullah, Jabbri, Shinkiari, Mansehra, Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley and its surrounding villages, he said.
The relief goods mostly included tents, blankets, food packages, milk, water, and warm clothes.
Bhatti appealed to all the international organisations, including churches and minorities of Pakistan to help and support the victims of earthquake and contribute in the reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts. He urged President Pervez Musharraf to convene a national conference of political parties, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to evolve reconstruction and rehabilitation plan.
