The Standing Committee of National Assembly on Food, Agriculture and Livestock has directed the Zarai Taraqqi Bank Ltd (ZTBL) to introduce a special relief package for small farmers, and in hardship cases it should waive mark-up on the principal amount.
The committee met in the Parliament House under the chairmanship of Ahmed Alam Anwar here on Tuesday to discuss the Credit problem of small growers, cotton crop production and strategy of wheat crop production 2005-06
The committee also noted the rise of prices of cotton at international level and advised cotton growers not to sell their produce in a haste as the prices were likely to go up in the local market.
The committee recommended that in order to facilitate the small farmers, the ZTBL should devise strategy for disbursement of loans.
The committee also directed Minfal to adopt bio-safety measures and take steps for controlling pollution in rivers in order to provide clean and uncontaminated water.
The committee showed concern over non-introduction of new resistant varieties of wheat seed to meet the demand of farmers.
Ishaq Khan Khakwani, Ghulam Murtazaz Maitla, Dr Abdul Qadir Khanzada, Sabir Hussain Awan, Dr Attaurehman, Mahmood Qureshi and Amir Ali Shah attended the meeting.
