Fourth team of doctors of the Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) left for Shaheed Gali, one of the worst earthquake-affected areas in the northern region, to provide medical aid to the people, it was learnt on Thursday.
Earlier, three teams of the AKUH have provided medical help to people, who were stuck up in unapproachable areas
Shaheed Gali is situated at a distance of six-hour drive from Islamabad en route to Muzaffarabad.
The 18-member team of doctors comprises physicians, technicians and nurses. It is equipped with medical and surgical supplies.
The team has left in spite of extreme weather conditions. Areas they are to cover are under heavy rains and receiving aftershocks. The team would pitch its base camp at Garhi Habibullah, where they would split up in smaller teams and visit scattered villages around Shaheed Gali to provide medical care to the affected people perched on nearby hill tops.
No team has visited this area so far as it is 7500 feet above sea level and the terrain is treacherous. The team is expected to provide medical care to about 600 patients per day.
There are already three teams of the AKU in the area and these have provided relief to many critically wounded people so far. These teams, comprise of doctors, nurses and technicians, have also worked for relief operation, which included evacuation and rescue operation.
AKU employees, students and medical residents have so far raised over Rs 4.8 million and have donated medicine, warm clothes and blankets. The AKU has also donated Rs 5 million toward medicine and organising relief operations.
