Pakistan on Thursday circulated a draft resolution that would have the UN General Assembly urge the world community to "deliver swiftly" the pledged funds for relief and rehabilitation of the earthquake victims in the NWFP and Azad Kashmir.
The draft, worked out in consultations with several member states, requests Secretary General Kofi Annan to appoint a special representative to sustain the political will of the international community to support medium- and long-term rehabilitation, reconstruction and risk reduction efforts.
The 191-member Assembly is expected to take action on the draft on November 14, officials said.
The Assembly would welcome the "effective co-operation" between the Pakistani authorities and the relevant bodies in the UN system, donor countries and regional and international financial institutions and civil society in the co-ordination and delivery of emergency relief.
It would also welcome the convening of a conference, to generate assistance and commitments for long-term rehabilitation and reconstruction phases in the disaster-stricken areas, in Islamabad on November 18.
