Just after the news of earthquake, the Association of Pakistan Physician of North America (APPNA) started a campaign and raised more than one million dollars for relief work.
APPNA president Dr Abdul Rashid Piracha stated this while speaking at a press conference at the Karachi Press Club here on Thursday.
He said APPNA exported heavy equipment like X-ray machines, image intensifier anaesthesia machines and different kind of monitors for use in government hospitals.
Since the time of earthquake, more than fifty doctors (specialists) of APPNA have visited Pakistan who are working in different hospitals at NWFP and Azad Kashmir, he said, adding every doctor came with drugs and supplies which were delivered to the hospitals.
This will continue and doctors will keep on coming to work at different centres in NWFP, Azad Kashmir and Islamabad.
On long-term basis, APPNA is planning to establish a rehabilitation centre at Muzaffarabad or NWFP, which will be operated by APPNA where paid staff will help victims in their rehabilitation.
Dr Sher Shah Syed, secretary-general of Pakistan Medical Association and Dr Qaiser Sajjad were also present on the occasion.-PR
