Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has appreciated the support provided by the government and non-governmental organisations of UK and the European Union for earthquake-affected areas of Pakistan.
The Prime Minister was talking to a three-member delegation of British members of parliament of Pakistani origin, who called on him in his office here on Friday evening. The delegation comprised of British MPs Ghulam Sarwar, Shahid Malik and Sadiq Khan.
The Prime Minister asked the British MPs to mobilise British general public to provide financial and technical assistance to Pakistan by creating awareness about the extent of damage caused by the earthquake.
The Prime Minister also emphasised upon the British MPs to assist Pakistan in getting better market access in EU countries.
The Prime Minister said there is an urgent need of artificial limbs, wheel chairs, crutches and other medical assistance and asked the MPs to help Pakistan government in this regard.
The Prime Minister said the government is now encouraging sponsorships and a large number of organisations and individuals have offered to sponsor villages, hospitals, schools, families, etc.
The other focus area is to develop centres and shelter houses for orphans and children having single parents.
The delegation appreciated efforts made by the government of Pakistan for the rescue and relief of earthquake-affected areas and assured the Prime Minister of their full support. Minister of State for Labour Senator Tariq Azim was also present in the meeting.
