Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) chief Qazi Hussain Ahmad on Thursday left for Muzaffarabad to celebrate Eid with the quake-affected people where he would also distribute Eid-gift among the quake survivors. He would lead Eid prayers at a ground near Uppar Adda, university old-campus, Muzaffarabad.
Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Naib Ameer Liaquat Baloch will distribute Eid gifts among affectees in Bagh. Other JI leaders will also celebrate Eid with quake-affected people at Rawlakot, Balakot, and other areas.
MNA Ayesha Munawar will spend Eid day with children and women at Rawlakot, Samiha Raheela Qazi and Begum Qazi Hussain Ahmad at Muzaffarabad, while secretary general JI Women Wing, Senator Dr Kausar Firdous would join earthquake affectees at Bagh and distribute gifts among children.
Moreover, Qazi Hussain Ahmed urged the countrymen to come forward and fulfil their responsibility vis-à-vis rehabilitating the earthquake affectees.
In a message on Eid-ul-Fitr, Qazi said the whole nation is in grip of sorrow and grief on this Eid due to devastating effects of October 8 earthquake in Azad Kashmir and NWFP. "Many cities and towns have been ruined. Tens of thousand citizens and innocent children died within seconds while more than wounded and rendered shelterless to face severe winter under open sky and now they are waiting for help", he said.
On the one hand, this natural disaster exposed incompetence and mismanagement on the part of the government while on the other hand it also provided the entire nation, especially religious organisations and their selfless workers, an opportunity to exhibit the cherished spirit of sacrifice, unity and brotherhood, Qazi added.
"We are facing the uphill task of rehabilitation of orphan kids, destitute women, treatment of wounded and handicapped after this earthquake. Neither the government nor can any other civil organisation single-handedly meet this challenge. It is a long-term task, which is to be shared by all of us. We have to keep the spirit of sacrifice prevalent in the masses fully alive to face the aftermath of October 8 earthquake", said Qazi Hussain Ahmed.
