Under the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, 1,322 trucks containing relief goods have so far been sent to quake-affected areas from the three districts of Faisalabad division ie Jhang, Faisalabad and Toba Tek Singh districts.
According to details, 1,118 trucks from Faisalabad, 150 from Jhang and 54 from Toba Tek Singh have been sent for helping the affected people.
The relief items included tents, blankets, quilts, woolen clothes etc beside daily use utensils, bakery and kitchen items, spades, candles, shoes and a number of dry ration items.
The District Co-ordination Officer (DCO) Faisalabad informed that a total number of 1,118 trucks of relief goods had so far been dispatched from Faisalabad, of which 108 trucks were sent by the district government, while 1,010 trucks were sent by different NGOs, welfare organisations, traders, industrialists and philanthropists of the area.
Lauding the spirit of sympathy and service to humanity demonstrated by the people here, the DCO remarked that their sense of sincerity and sacrifice was unparalleled.
The DCO said there was need of medicines and dry ration in the calamity hit areas along with tents, quilts, blankets and woolen clothes.
He said people collecting relief goods should keep those requirements; blankets, quilts and warm clothing in view of the quickly setting in cold weather in the affected areas with many victims still stranded in open areas there.
The DCO said besides setting up 12 relief centres in the district, of six were in Faisalabad City, bank account of the Governor's Earthquake Relief Fund had also been opened in Allied Bank bearing No 855-7. The people had been facilitated with the liberty of depositing their donations in any ABL branch of Faisalabad for their convenience, he added.
In addition, a Packing and Despatch Unit had been set up in the former Roti Plant building near Iqbal Stadium, with the co-operation of Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The DCO said that an Information and Co-ordination Center had also been set up in his office where people could contact with regard to their queries and guidance etc on phone Nos. 9200214 and 9200590.
