Bodies of all 35 victims of Kefti Bundar boat tragedy were fished out by local divers and divers from Navy and Edhi Foundation. These persons drowned when their boat broke apart and capsized in a creek near Khalifa village off Keti Bundar coast in the early hours of Eid day on Friday.
As per reports on Sunday about 52 members of local Soomra and Dars tribes, including women and children, were riding a boat from village Khalifa towards village Ali Mohammad Dars to attend a condolences gathering when the vessel broke up and capsized in deep waters.
Seventeen male passengers managed to survive by swimming towards the shore while the rest thirty-five, mostly women and children drowned.
The deceased included Bachil, wife of Umar, Bachal son of Umar, Maryam wife of Ibrahim, Khairan daughter of Ibrahim, Nooran wife of Haji, Khairan daughter of Haji, Banoo daughter of Haji, Razia daughter of Haji, Allahdino son of Jumoo, Amant wife of Allahdino, Haneefan wife of Mohammad Shafi, Shafi son of Mohammad, Niamat daughter of Mohammad, Hawa daughter of Mohammad, Nathi wife of Nooroo, Raheeman wife of Haji Abdullah, Khadija wife of Siddique, Abida daughter of Hussain, Jhalloo wife of Kandero, Lakhano son of Kandero, Khairan daughter of Kandero, Fahmeeda daughter of Kandero, Soomari daughter of Kandero, Saran daughter of Jumman, Hashim son of Moosa, Abdul Kareem son of Hashim, Fatima wife of Jumman, Ali Nawaz son of Jumman, Abdullah son of Lakhano, Zubeda daughter of Hassan, Idrees son of Hashim and Yakoob.
A survivor Kandero, who lost all his family members, managed to swim out and survive. He lost his senses and was seen wailing and crying.
Other survivors included Jumman, Mohammad Ali and Ali Mohammad.
Sindh Advisor Syed Aijaz Ali Shah Shirazi, District Co-ordination Officer (DCO) Mohammad Usman Panhwar, District Police Officer (DPO) Dawood Junejo reached the scene and supervised rescue efforts with the help of local divers.
Later divers from Navy and Edhi also reached the site and helped recovery of other drowned persons.
MPA Sassui Palijo and Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum (PFF) President Mohammed Ali Shah also reached the affected village and offered condolences with the bereaved families.
District government announced compensation of Rs 25000/ for each deceased victim. Aijaz Ali Shah also promised compensation by the Sindh government.
Sindh Chief Minister while condoling deaths in the accident ordered an enquiry into it.
PPP leader Makhdoom Ameen Faheem also condoled deaths in the accident.
