Living longer is considered one of the major objectives of all species, human beings are no exception. But a new study reveals that the peak of human life expectancy has already been achieved.
Yes there is a limit to human age, the researchers at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York have found the maximum average human lifespan, which is 115 years.
Scientists believe that it may not be possible to extend the human life span, as their research shows that the maximum human lifespan appears to be stuck at around 115 years, reported The Guardian.
“The chances are very high that we (have) really reached our maximum allotted lifespan for the first time,” said Jan Vijg, co-author of the research from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York.
"Demographers as well as biologists have contended there is no reason to think that the ongoing increase in maximum lifespan will end soon," added Jan Vijg.
This means that instead of wasting time and resources trying to extend life, one should work on increasing the health span, meaning the duration of old age spent in good health, says the study published in Nature.
“That’s where we have to invest our money,” said Vijg.
