The Birth anniversary of great philosopher and poet Allama Muhammad Iqbal was celebrated with usual zeal and enthusiasm in the city and other parts of Sialkot district on Wednesday.
The daylong programmes started with special prayers for the solidarity, unity and prosperity of the country and for the early liberation of Indian Occupied Kashmir while special prayer held for the early recovery of earthquake victims in all principal mosques of Sialkot.
A big procession led by Tehsil Nazim Sialkot Imtiaz-ud-Dar was taken out from the Iqbal Manzil (the birthplace of Iqbal) to the graves of the mother and father of Allama Iqbal.
Elected representatives, government officers, journalists and a larger number of citizens joined the procession.
On this occasion, the Sialkot Tehsil Nazim and several social, cultural and literary organisations laid flower wreaths on the graves of parents of Allama Iqbal and offered Fateha.
A large number of school and college students visited the Iqbal Manzil for paying homage to the great philosopher and poet and especially visited the room in which Allama took birth.
A book exhibition was also arranged at the Iqbal Manzil and a large number of books written on Allama Iqbal by different authors in various languages as well as some rare books were displayed there.
Tehsil Nazim Imtiaz Dar urged upon the students and other visitors of the Iqbal Manzil that they should study the poetry of Allama Iqbal for overcoming our multifarious problems.
"It is high time that we should follow the message of Iqbal for fulfilment of the dreams and making Pakistan stronger," he was of the opinion. He called upon the teachers and students to study Iqbal with full concentration for establishing a healthy and discrimination-free society for ensuring justice at gross root level in the country.
IQBAL STUDY CENTRE: Provincial Industries and Investment Minister Muhammad Ajmal Cheema said that a full-fledged "Iqbal Study Centre" would be set up at Iqbal Manzil (the birth place of Iqbal) Sialkot shortly.
Addressing a function held to mark the birth anniversary of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, here on Wednesday at Iqbal Manzil, he said the main concept of setting up of Iqbal study centre was to provide maximum research facilities to the scholars, researchers, PhD and M.Phil students.
The Minister said that existing library would be converted into a modern library, which would cater the needs of the researchers, adding the library would be furnished with research papers and books written on Allama Iqbal by various authors in different languages would be provided.
Besides, appropriate measures were being taken for the renovation of Iqbal Manzil while necessary repair of this historic monument would also be undertake, he revealed.
The Provincial Minister further stated that the best way was to pay tributes to Allama Muhammad Iqbal that we should collectively work for the completion of mission of Allama Iqbal for converting the country into an invincible state of the glob.
The Provincial Industries Minister stressed upon the student community that they should study Iqbal for making the country an invincible fort of the glob.
Speaking on the occasion, district Nazim Sialkot Akmal Cheema said that Allama Iqbal played a significant role in shaping the destiny of the nation that had been caught in the double whirlpool of economic and political depression and had none to show it the way.
The services rendered by Allama would be remembered all times to come and we should focus our attention for making the country according the wishes and dreams of Allama Iqbal and father of the nation Quid-I-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
Earlier, Provincial Industries Minister Muhammad Ajmal Cheema, District Nazim Sialkot Muhammad Akmal Cheema along with government officers, journalists and traders went round different portions of Iqbal Manzil. Later they laid the flower wreaths on the graves of the parents of Allama Iqbal.
