Unidentified gunmen shot dead Mohammad Afzal, Nazim of Union Council 155, Sidhar, and injured three persons including a general councillor, outside the office of the Union Council where they had called a meeting for the help of earthquake affected people.
According to details, Muhammad Afzal was sitting outside his office along with a dozen people of the area and friends when four armed persons in a white Suzuki car without number plate sprayed them with bullets. Muhammad Afzal, Ghulam Sabir, general councillor, Anwar and Muhammad Arshad sustained injuries while the attackers fled away firing shots in the air and taking advantage of darkness.
All injured were rushed to Allied Hospital where Afzal succumbed to his injuries while the three injured were shifted to intensive car unit.
The motive behind the attack could not be ascertained. However, Thireewala Police stated that it was a matter of election rivalry. One person was arrested from Allied Hospital, Faisalabad, for investigation. Afzal was son of Irshad Pehalwan, Vice Chairman of All Pakistan Sizing Industries Association.
ANOTHER MURDER:
In another incident, unidentified gunmen shot dead the owner of a petroleum agency, Amer Saleem, resident of nearby village 177-GB, who was sleeping in his shop. Sammundri Sadar Police have registered a case and his cousin, Saghir, has been taken into custody for investigation.
