A bomb targeting aid workers damaged an armoured United Nations vehicle in volatile southern Afghanistan on Wednesday, but no one was hurt in the blast, a government official said.
The device was remotely detonated as a convoy, including members of the UN Office for Project Services passed on a road in the Maiwand district of troubled Kandahar province, Deputy District Governor Haji Toryalai said.
"The car was damaged, but thanks to God no one was hurt," the governor told AFP. Two men were detained with suspected links to the attack.
Toryalai did not say who was behind the attack.
The US-led coalition helping to secure the country from attacks by the Taleban and other militants said, meanwhile, it had detonated a roadside bomb targeted at Afghan and US forces near the eastern city of Jalalabad.
The device, planted on a frequently-used road, was removed on Monday, it said in a statement.
Afghan police had also detained two men "with a large amount of money, small arms and documents outlining enemy activity" in Ghazni, another insurgency-hit province, the statement said.
