Pakistan on Friday tabled a draft resolution in the General Assembly calling for the appointment of a special UN envoy to deal with the aftermath of the devastating earthquake that struck northern parts of the country.
The draft, which thanks the international community for support to the victims of the earthquake, has been co-sponsored by more than 100 countries and that the text would be adopted by consensus.
The United Nations says it has received funds and solid commitments worth only 15 percent of the total $550 million it is seeking for emergency relief operations.
It has asked donors for $42.4 million for operations to the end of this month. Long-term reconstruction is expected to cost about $5 billion.
Pakistan is organising a donors' conference on November 19, which UN Secretary General Kofi Annan is due to attend.
