Pakistani Ambassador to United States Jehangir Karamat on Thursday said it was a matter of acknowledgement that the US was doing so much for assisting Pakistan in quake relief work.
Asked to comment on the overall relief effort from the United States, he told APP, "we must not look at the funds contributed alone. We must also look at it from the angle of medical facilities, flying of helicopter sorties, and the amount being committed to for relief and rehabilitation."
Karamat said the new initiative launched by President Bush by involving the chief executives of the corporate, so that they raise funds from the American nation, was a significant measure.
It is not a matter of $156 million announced by the US, so far, he said, adding: "When looking at all of it, one finds that it is a big contribution by the United States and we must duly acknowledge it, and we must understand that they are doing so much for us."
These steps, the Ambassador added, would affect favourably to the thinking in Pakistan about America. "It will as well affect on the strategic relationship that Pakistan has with the United States. We must acknowledge that so much is being done for us."
To a question on the Committee for Global Relief (CGR) and SAIS, in which Pakistani-American and Indian-American young scholars have joined hands in their effort to raise funds for quake victims of South Asia, Karamat said: "it is younger generation, and it is their future. We can help them remain on proper path, but future is theirs, they are doing so much of work and we must lend them due support."
Earlier, the Ambassador spoke at the CGR/SAIS fundraiser.
