German embassy in Pakistan is hosting a two-day conference on the issue of human rights, starting from November 15. German and Pakistani human rights experts will gather for the two-day conference starting on November 15.
Food, shelter, housing, education, an adequate life- some of the most pressing basic needs are addressed in the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR). Nevertheless, these human rights are seemingly still less known and less taken seriously. The Embassy intends to shed light on the current state of affairs reference to the ICESCR in this two-day conference.
The protection of economic, social and cultural rights can have a deep impact on a country's economic and social policies. It also affects rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts after natural disasters.
Professor Dr Martina Haedrich, (University of Jena), UN-Special Rapporteur Asma Jahangir, Agha Shahi (member of the UN-Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination), Dr Anna Wurth (German Institute for Human Rights), Dr Khalid Masood, Chairman of the Council of Islamic Ideology, German Ambassador Dr Gunter Mulack, Kashmala Tariq MNA and other eminent scholars will be among the speakers. First Secretary for Human Rights Policy and organiser of the Conference Ellen Golz said the workshop would help raising the awareness for the universality and inter-relatedness of all human rights.
