The Pakistan Red Crescent Society's hospital set up at the Al-shifa Hospital premises has successfully operated as many as 365 injured of Muzaffarabad and NWFP areas who received multiple injuries in the October 8 devastated earthquake, said an official of the PRCS.
At least an average of 30 cases of extremely critical nature are treated daily, conducted by a team of about 30 qualified doctors, which include highly qualified Pakistani and foreign specialists, he said adding that a separate septic operation has been set up to cope with severely affected problems.
While explaining the need for a separate septic theater. He said that since many injured were brought from remote and inaccessible areas after a long time elapsed since their injuries, chances of their catching gangrene and other worsening of injuries were multiple, and could be treated by special anti-septic methods only.
He explained that while treating patients with nervous system damages, they were doused with a bucketful of hot and cold water to revive their senses.
Similarly patients with light injuries were being given skin graphy and screw plates, whereas those with deep and heavy injuries were given full thickness graph.
