A one-day conference on 'Arbitration, Privatisation of Justice' is being held here on Tuesday to be attended by judges and jurists from all the Saarc nations.
The objective of the conference is to provide an alternative medium other than litigation for settling commercial disputes lawfully in order to make Pakistan a business-friendly environment.
Sources said an arbitration centre in Pakistan will attract investors both foreign and local by offering them viable alternatives in order to overcome rigors of litigation, causing losses in terms of time and money.
The conference will provide an opportunity to debate among representatives of Saarc countries, judges, arbitrators, members of local and foreign business community, government of Pakistan and academics on issues and solutions for providing a legal environment.
Speakers of the conference include privatisation minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, Supreme Court judges, attorney general, head of International Finance Corporation, president of International Council for Commercial Arbitration, senior patrons of Clifford Chance, senior partners of Allen & Overy and the World Bank.
