Relief and rehabilitation activities continue in the earthquake devastated areas of Azad Kashmir and the NWFP. Pakistan army is busy in providing basic amenities of life to the quake survivors in tented cities in co-operation with civil administration and welfare organisations, PTV reported.
About 28 truckloads of relief goods were distributed among the survivors in Muzaffarabad and the surrounding areas, while helicopters managed over 100 sorties to drop relief items over Neelum and Leepa valleys. Meanwhile, the government departments, private agencies, NGOs and individuals are also busy in rehabilitation and reconstruction activities.
Punjab government has dispatched five teams of volunteers for this purpose. The affected people are also being vaccinated against various epidemics. More tented villages are being established in the plain areas while shelters are being provided to the affected people of far-flung areas. Distribution of compensation cheques is also continuing in a transparent manner to enable the people to stand on their own feet and protect them from the cold.
