Wasim Haqqie, Chairman Engineering Development Board, has said that Pakistan has to follow global trends for fast development of engineering sector, says a press release issued here on Thursday.
He was addressing the managers of the board after taking over the charge. He underlined the importance of engineering sector in development of industry in Pakistan.
Haqqie paid glowing tributes to outgoing chairman Razzak Dawood for development of engineering sector, first as Minister for Industries & Production and later as head of the board, especially in preparation of Engineering Vision and tariff rationalisation.
He emphasised on the important role that the engineering sector had played in the development of other regional fast-growing economies like Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Korea etc and added that paradigm shift from concentrating only on the textile sector was imperative.
Wasim Haqqie endorsed the current policies being pursued at the Engineering Development Board. However, he emphasised the need to work on fast-track basis for their implementation, the press release concluded.-PR
