An Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Peshawar Medical College and Health Department was principally agreed under which the college would extend treatment and diagnostic facilities to the public in its three teaching hospitals at charges lesser than the government hospitals.
This was disclosed in a meeting presided over by the Provincial Minister for Health, Inayatullah here in Peshawar. The meeting convened to discuss possibilities of co-operation between Peshawar Medical College held at the Committee Room of Health Secretariat Peshawar.
Secretary Health Abdus Samed Khan, Principal Peshawar Medical College Professor Najibul Haq, Executive Director Dr Iftikhar and high ups of the Health Department were present on the occasion.
Commenting on the MOU, the Health Minister said that it was a unique opportunity that a private sector organisation was opening its health facilities to the public without demanding any sort of financial incentives from the government. "Offering 400-bed facility to the public was a noble task which deserves to be appreciated widely," he maintained.
The Health Minister while assuring government's support to the authorities of Peshawar Medical College said that government was not only promoting private sector but also encouraging public-private partnership in the health sector.
Highlighting details of the MOU, Dr Najibul Haq disclosed that PMC would offer ordinary consultation only at a fee of Rs 10 in its there teaching hospitals including Mercy Hospital, Kuwait Hospital and Al-Khidmat Hospital in Peshawar while senior professors could be consulted only at Rs 50 at these hospitals.
He said that sole aim of the co-operation with government was to promote a better educational and professional atmosphere.
Referring to the vision behind establishment of PMC, Dr Najib said that production of professionally competent and ethically sound medical experts was the main objective. "Research will be a dominant component of the curriculum and each student will be bound to produced 5 research papers for successful completion of the course", he revealed.
