Pakistan is attending a three-day conference on 'Partners in Population and Development' commencing from November 21 at Agra in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
Federal Minister for Population Welfare, Chaudhry Shehbaz Hussain, heading a four-member delegation arrived here on Sunday to represent Pakistan at the Conference- an Alliance of 21 developing countries. Pakistan's delegation will make presentation at the Conference on the important aspects of the issues.
The delegation, headed by Federal Minister for Population Welfare, comprises of Parliamentary Secretary for Population Welfare, Dr Donoia Aziz, Director General Dr Mumtaz Esker and Director Malik Amanat Rasul from Ministry of Population Welfare.
The elections to the Executive Committee of the Forum for three years will also take place during the moot. China is currently Chairman of the Alliance.
The Conference participants will discuss population issues in an extensive manner and share each others experience besides reviewing the progress so far achieved in the field.
The participants will also discuss the ways and means and devise strategy as how to integrate and meet the goals and targets, set by International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) and UN Millennium Summit by the deadline- 2115.
Major goals set by the ICPD and UN Millennium Summit include eradication of extreme poverty and hunger, reduction in child mortality, realisation of universal primary education, promotion of gender equality and empowerment of women, improvement of maternal health, global partnership for development and check on the growing menace of AIDs and other diseases.
