The National Assembly Standing Committee on House and Library on Monday directed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to immediately get cracks in the structures of the Parliament House and Lodges repaired which were developed due to recent earthquake.
The committee met under the chairmanship of National Assembly Acting Speaker Sardar Mohammad Yaqub in the Parliament House and discussed matters pertaining to the security, maintenance and repair of the Parliament Lodges.
The NA body directed the CDA to get the cracks immediately repaired from Nespak.
The lawmakers expressed their concern on the cleanliness and janitorial services being provided at parliament lodges.
Sardar Mohammad Yaqub constituted a five-member sub-committee to supervise pre-qualification process of the firms who have submitted their bids in response to the tenders invited by CDA for janitorial services.
He also directed the CDA to intensify the pace of repairs, maintenance and upholstery of the furniture in the family suites.
The committee, while discussing the security arrangements at parliament lodes, directed the interior ministry and Senior Superintendent of Police to take up the issue of creation of posts of police constables exclusively for the security of parliament house and lodges.
SSP informed the committee that earlier the case was moved for allocations of funds but the finance ministry due to financial constraints regretted sanction of additional strength.
It was also decided that all parliamentarians would have to provide names of the persons residing with them so that unauthorised entry into the premises of lodges may be restricted.
The committee also directed the CDA to issue notices to illegal occupants of rooms in government hostel and restrict the allotment of rooms to parliamentarians for their guests for not more than 15 days.
The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Housing and Works Syed Safwanullah, MNAs Makhdum Syed Ali Hassan Gillani, Belum Husnain, Shagufta Jumani, Krishan Bheel Advocate, Mohammad Ibrahim Jatoi, Chaudhry Mohammad Rafiq, secretary National Assembly and senior officers of ministry of interior and CDA.
