China assures its support to Pakistan for quick implementation of worth $300 million reconstruction projects in the quake-affected areas. The assurance was held out by a spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry Liu Jianchao at a regular news briefing here on Tuesday.
He said, "We are prepared to realise our pledge made at the international donors' conference in Islamabad last Saturday, providing $300 million soft-term loan to Pakistan for executing the projects as early as possible."
When asked as how and when China will undertake the reconstruction in the affected areas, the spokesperson said. "We know the urgency of the work in the disaster-hit areas and wish to fulfill their commitment to this regard without any delay."
The reconstruction plan will be worked out and implemented in consultation with relevant authorities in Pakistan, he said adding, the Chinese government and the people wish to provide all possible help to Pakistan, alleviating the sufferings of the affected people.
The pledge of providing $300 million loan was made by the Chinese Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Wu Dawei while addressing the donors' conference.
The concessional loan would fund the repair of Karakoram Highway, the provision of health and educational facilities in Balakot of the North West Frontier Province, and the establishment of a network of seismic stations throughout Pakistan.
Besides the new commitments, China has already provided dollar 26.73 million worth of materials, cash and medical services in three batches to Pakistan.
