Bangladesh Minister for Food, Disaster Management and Relief Chowdhury Kamal Ibne-Yousuf on Tuesday called for close interaction between businessmen, entrepreneurs, experts and NGOs to promote all round co-operation between Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Speaking at meeting with Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) members at a local hotel, he invited a high-level delegation from the FPCCI to Bangladesh to promote trade and economic co-operation. He said that there were many fields in which they can collaborate.
The Bangladesh minister also invited Pakistan's women entrepreneurs to establish contacts with their counterparts in Bangladesh who are mostly engaged in the handicrafts business. He offered to act as a catalyst to bring the women entrepreneurs of both the countries closer.
Chowdhury Kamal, who attended the donors' conference for the earthquake victims, said that he conveyed the condolence of the prime minister and Government of Bangladesh to the Government and the people of Pakistan.
He said that the devastation from the earthquake was the worst in the region, adding that Bangladesh was one of the disaster-prone countries of the world and it faced floods, cyclones and tornadoes throughout the year.
He said that Bangladesh was one of the first countries to send two planes load of relief goods to Pakistan.
Earlier, FPCCI Vice President Akbar Abdullah, while welcoming the minister expressed pleasure that Pakistan and Bangladesh were heading towards signing of Free Trade Agreement under which Pakistan may seek concessions on more than 400 items from Bangladesh.
He said that since the share of bilateral trade between them was insignificant as compared to the potential they should exert their influence for early implementation of the recommendations made in Safta, which will provide level playing field for each country and help in augmenting bilateral economic relations.
Former FPCCI president Tariq Sayeed said that a delegation of Pakistani businessmen led by FPCCI President Chaudhry Muhammad Saeed will visit Bangladesh during the month-long Dhaka international trade fair scheduled for December 12 this year. He said that the FPCCI would actively participate in the trade fair.-PR
